Thought Process Involved In Purchasing A Domain Name

As my first post on the Trendy Money website was just welcoming people to the blog, and explaining the purpose of the website (informing people how to make money online), I decided that today I would tell you about the process of choosing and purchasing my domain name.

I wanted a domain name that would hopefully contain some keywords that are related to my website for a few different reasons:

I felt that Money was a word that I would really need to include in the domain name, if at all possible. Now I needed to find a domain that had the word Money included as either a hyphenated word, or as part of another word.

Before I could start my search, I remembered the advantage of using a domain which has previously been indexed in the major search engines, or which has a good age (isn’t too new). It would be a huge advantage if the domain also has a Page Rank assigned to it, but I knew this was going to be a longshot so I wouldn’t be too upset if a domain didn’t have any PR. I felt that I would much rather have a good, brandable domain name then some random one which has a few blocks of Page Rank.

Whenever I had previously searched for expired domain names, including ones that had Page Rank, I had used a website called Findeteer.com. However, when I tried visiting it said that it was being redesigned. This website allows you to search for expired or expiring domain names which contained certain words. Luckily I found another website that did the same job, and this was BulkSeo.com. I started by searching for expired .COM domain names that contain the word Money (I had also heard that .COM domains contain the most authority when ranking in search engines). I found a few domains that took my interest, and made a list of them all. I asked a few random friends which domains they found to be the most memorable from the list, and I also went through them myself. Eventually I settled for TrendyMoney.com, because I felt it was both memorable and brandable, and of course contained the important keyword Money.

Before purchasing the domain I did a few checks in the search engine Google, just to check that it hadn’t been banned. I used Google because I think this is currently the most popular search engine, and from previous experience most of my traffic comes from Google, and I understand how their search engine works (to an extent). I found out using an online program that my domain wasn’t banned in Google, and so I went ahead and purchased it, and then set it up with a Wordpress blog. Simple as that! ;)

Interesting post. I used to search lists of expired domains with good keywords (money for example) and pick the best. I managed to bag myself a good money related .com last month thanks to those lists.

Also, thanks to Wordpress it is easy to knock together a site in a matter of minutes and stick some Adsense on it. :)
